I couldn’t help it. After George Takei (Mr. Sulu from “Star Trek” as if you didn’t know) came out I went to IMDbPro and checked his listing on the STARmeter.
Sure enough, Mr. Takei took a big jump from somewhere in the high four-thousands back in April up to #3748 in the past few days
Actually several of the original crew seem to have taken big jumps in the same time period. So either there’s a new sequel in the works or the others are enjoying a George Takei halo effect.
In all seriousness, good for George Takei. He’s 68 years old and, from everything I’ve ever heard, a great guy. He deserves what most of us take for granted: to be able to live without hiding something so fundamental to who he is.
Now taking this back to me, I’m weighing the taking my own life thing versus announcing to the world that I’m gay in order to up my STARmeter rating.
George Takei went up 1000 points by coming out, but Charles Rocket went from #9,000 plus change all the way to #1 by killing himself in a hotel room.
On paper this one’s easy, but I want to be around to cash in.
But if I go with the gay strategy The Wife would kill me.
Which admittedly would get me to Number One.
Hell, when you’re a stone’s throw from the STARmeter #800,000 Ghetto you’d probably have to bugger a unicorn in the back window of the Today Show to get any real momentum going.
No easier, softer way….
Back to working on My Craft now.
