It’s still a long way out and I can always change my mind, but what I observed this morning tipped the scales for me.
John Edwards is the guy I want sitting in the oval office in January 2009.
Okay, I wish he was there now so we could start cleaning up the mess, but the law is the law.
I like Edwards best for the following reasons:
1. He’s dead on about there being two Americas, one for the Haves and another for the rest of us. I have a lot, but not nearly enough to qualify as One Who Matters to the current regime or their sponsors.
2. He’s for Universal Health Care, a fact of life for every other civilized nation on Earth. Yeah, it’ll cost money but it costs too much not to have it. Keep the guns. Pass the butter.
3. He’s big enough to admit he was wrong to support the Iraq War.
4. His life tells the story of a guy who got his priorities straight. Came from nothing, worked hard and smart, got rich. Then he got hit as hard as you can get hit with the loss of a child. He’s kept getting hit with his wife’s illnesses, his “defeat” in 2004, and all the garbage the Right-Wing Hate Machine can crank out and he still stays on message, still stays upbeat, still shows up to work each day.
This is the kind of person we need in Power. Until I see or hear something to convince me otherwise, John Edwards is my candidate.
