Okay, so I got scammed and no, I’m not talking about Time-Warner Cable.
Yet. (That ordeal is heading into its final lap. Watch this space for the score.)
Nah, I got taken in by one of those “So good it oughta be true” deals.
Earlier today, for reasons that escape me now, I was searching Google Images for “Heath Ledger as the Joker.”
(Okay, I do that every day right after I get up and before I say my prayers at night. Ya got me, okay?!)
Anyway, what came up was today was this:

Turns out it’s a hoax, Ledger’s actual Joker “look” is a secret guarded with the same thoroughness as the location of Cheney and Bin Laden’s summer love shack only subject to more mainstream media interest.
What we see above is a retouched image of the late Conrad Veidt from his 1928 silent film “The Man Who Laughs” which incidentally provided the inspiration for the creators of The Joker in the first place.
I thought it was an amazing tribute. Turns out it was just an amazing hoax.
But at least the hoaxer has some talent and a sense of irony.
Big purple zoot suit hats off to you, pal, whoever you are.
UPDATE APRIL 2008: I am still so sad over Heath Ledger’s death. What a gifted man. What performances we shall never know. Thanks, pill-pushing quacks. Good thing pot’s still illegal.
