Fantastic Four Review (Spoilers?)

I am someone who really wants comic book movies to be great and do well so it maks me sad to report….

Yeah, BIG surprise:  A summer action movie geared to teenage boys is kind of stupid, has lots of plot holes, and is acted about as well as one would expect when most of what the actors are responding to hasn’t been CGIed in yet.

Actually, I’m not going to give examples.  There are too many to choose from.  I will say this had the potential to be an amazingly good flick, fun, smart, and with visuals to blow your doors off.

Sadly, through the seemingly aggressive dumbing down of plot and characters, FF/Surfer managed to be both insulting to long-time fans and disappointing to the casual viewer.

To be fair though it must be noted that the target audience I observed (shallow, late teens/early twenties with their peers) seemed to be having a fine old time descibing to themselves what they had just seen on the screen and giggling everytime Chris Evans flirted with the stuck-up Army chick or Jessica Alba showed some skin.

I guess it’s a back-handed credit to the comic books that movies like these make one appreciate just how intelligent, consistent, and nuanced the $2.50 paper version of these heroes usually is compared to the 11 buck wide-screen edition.

Here’s the good stuff:
