So what exactly has been keeping me from the blogging life these past weeks?
1. Travel to DC. Each year since I’ve been in LA I’ve flown home to DC around the last week of June to teach a Summer Camp Workshop at the Smithsonian. I started teaching it with my pal Michael Gabel the year before I left and it’s been enough of a success each time that they keep asking us back. It’s fun, the kids are great, and it effectively pays for itself since my fee exceeds that which is charged by United Airlines and the friends on whose sofas I sleep.
The downside is that I never have enough time to see everyone I want or do all the things I want. It’s like my normal life with the added pain of homesickness.
2. My cousin’s wedding. Seems like there’s been one every year now since The Wife and I kickstarted the latest generation into realizing that weddings were a great excuse to eat cake, get wasted, and end the day in a hotel room with a person who looks great. (We’ll discuss buyer’s remorse later, like after I’m safely dead and cremated.)
While endevouring to maintain the anonymity of my family members on this site I must acknowledge that my cousin has continued the proud Judy tradition of marrying a woman who is too good for him. I say this even in light of the fact that my cousin is an amazing guy himself. Smart, good-looking, successful…. Maybe he’s adopted?
In any case it was a beautiful thing. A Catholic ceremony at Loyola Chapel followed by a reception on a boat cruising from the Annapolis docks to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and back. Not a wrong note was sounded the entire day which may be a first for Judy family events.
3. Jetlag. We flew back and lost three hours and our minds after sleeping a combined half a wink before diving into all the stuff that had piled up here.
4. Life. Changing from PC to Mac, getting The Kid back to school after half his friends graduated, the Santa Monica Pier, Work, Toys R Us, the bike store, all that stuff. All decent blog fodder, none of which I have the time to expand upon just now.
The unforgiving minute has been filled with 60 seconds worth of distance run, plus fries and a shake.
More after I figure out how to load pictures from my wonderful new Mac.
