Dubya’s Daddy Likes Him. He Really, Really Likes Him.

I don’t.

This New York Times article about the complicated, loving relationship between the guy who sold his soul to Ronald Reagan and his son, who has no soul to barter, would move me more if there weren’t so many people being forever deprived of a parent-child relationship by the war George the Lesser thought he could get away with.

Had I been Bush the Elder the most important piece of advice I could have offered is “Son, don’t run for an office you’re not qualified to hold.”

A close second would be, “My boy, when it’s obvious most voters want Al Gore in the big chair, send the lawyers home and be a good citizen.”

I still dream of that world that might have been.  Budgets balanced, intelligence reports read, two towers still standing…

Instead we got the American version of royal succession:
