The Problem with Supporting the ACLU…

…is that occasionally they do something stupid like defending Senator Larry Craig’s right to have sex in a public restroom.

The most surprising thing I learned while reading the article was that the ACLU cited a Minnesota Supreme Court ruling 38 years ago that found that people who have sex in closed stalls in public restrooms “have a reasonable expectation of privacy.”

So, am I to infer that in 1970 Minnesota was The Place to Be if you wanted to find love with your feet in a shopping bag?

For the record I completely support the right of consenting same-sex Republicans (and others) to do as they will in the privacy of their own bathrooms, kitchens, crawl-spaces, tool-sheds (ha-ha), and even their bedrooms if the maid isn’t due for a few minutes.

But when I go into a PUBLIC facility of any kind I have a reasonable expectation that I will not have to listen to anyone else’s throaty whispers of “Jesus, Mary, and all the Saints and oh, God, yes, Larry, pretend I’m a poor person and you’re Ronald Reagan, YES!”

I mean, is that too much to ask while we’re changing our kids’ diapers or sneaking a smoke?
