… is just terrific!
I’ve become a huge fan of Paul Giamatti since seeing him in “American Splendor” and “Sideways” and if you want some easy money start betting on him to be nominated for the Emmy and SAG Awards this year. So far his is the best performance I’ve seen in 2008. Laura Linney as Abigail, David Morse as George Washington, and Tom Wilkinson as Ben Franklin are all outstanding. Really not a bad apple in the bunch.
My only quibble thus far is a tendency with Franklin to have him speaking in aphorisms. It’s an easy and tempting trap for a writer to fall into given how much material Franklin provides, but I’d like to see more of him being less quotable.
Every year HBO gives me at least one reason not to cancel them.
This time it’s “John Adams.”
