A very good, if (perhaps necessarily) a bit preachy film. Sean Penn and Josh Brolin are wonderful, a couple of the supporting cast a bit less so.
At this point I’m leaning toward “Slumdog Millionaire” as Best Cast for the SAG Awards.
I was going to go with Frank Langella’s Nixon as Best Male Lead, but Penn has bumped him. I can’t see voting for Mickey Rourke for anything and I’ll probably never see Richard Jenkins in “The Visitor” despite liking him very much in every other performance of his I’ve seen.
That’s why we need screeners, you cheap-jack studio schmucks. We broke SAG members can’t afford all these movie tickets and time away from our crummy day jobs.
And Dev Patel in “Slumdog” should have been a Lead nominee, not Supporting. Ledger will still probably win it but I’m voting for Patel.
Tomorrow: ”Doubt”
Thursday: “Benjamin Button” if I can make myself do it. This is one I would never see if it weren’t nominated for so much. Sorry Brad.
