Excellent commentary. I ran across your blog when Googling for information on the candidates for Soil and Water Conservation Directors, on which the Washington Post had zip as far as I could find. You had a gold mine of great information on them and the candidates for other offices. Many thanks.

Clarisa-
I googled "Fairfax County election results 2011" and found this: http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/news/2011/updates/november-8-election-returns.htm
Maybe it's helpful. We shall see. Gotta say the mechanics of voting here seem almost designed to produce highly contestable results. After 200+ years of this you'd think we'd be better at it.
Thanks for your kind words.

Hi John,
Love your blog! You are saving my (voting) life today. As regards Ms. Brown-Kaplan, this unsavory bit (along with the endorsement of that odious "lucky poors" Red Apple woman) steered me far away:

Hello John! (I feel like I already know you ;-) )
First, ditto the above comment by lisahelene.

Second, I have googled "local election results herndon va hutchison district" and did not get the results I was hoping for. Do you know a website where I can get election results district by district?

Thanks!

Hey, clarisamaria1, I hadn't looked at either Epstein or Strauss before you brought them up because they're not on my ballot. I did a quick search on them and would recommend voting for Strauss for two reasons:
1. She's an experienced incumbent with a strong record of service and accomplishment.
2. Epstein actually has the Red Apple Mom as her campaign manager. Very, very bad. Whatever line she may be feeding the press a Red Apple candidate has one agenda: Warm the feet of her own kids by burning down the poor.
I'm sure someone with Epstein's qualifications will be a fine school volunteer, but she should not be allowed to inflict her policy priorities on kids who lack the money to buy elections.
Also, her tax attorney turned right-wing activist story sounds a little too much like Michele Bachmann's.
(shudder!)
Thanks for stopping by.

Hi John! Great Blog.

Question: Louise K. Epstein vs. Jane K. "Janie" Strauss?

Back story: I hate teabaggers too. Of course I agree with helping poor and disadvantaged students as much as the "haves" BUT
I was/am one of those poor hispanic students I keep hearing about
either I'm getting "poor girl" looks from well intended dems or "how can I get you deported" and "why are you here" looks from the evil red apple moms of the world.
I much prefer the dems for the record

When I went to HS in south florida, thank God, I had access to fantastic AP classes and high school honor classes through magnet programs. Back then, in SFL, they put these fantastic programs in really rough neighborhoods. It was the best of both worlds, to me, b/c I got to see these two different social cultures HAVE to deal with each other...

Anyways, Epstein, although I know her campaign is more for the "haves" I agree with her about the FAIRGrades thing and about the honors classes thing. Its not really about if you have money, but all students should have access to AP, honors, or standard. And the rest of the country does do the weighted GPA. Without AP and honors in PUBLIC HS, I would not have been able to go to a public university and graduate from software engineering. (Yes, UF). (Sorry about the multiple 'thing' word replacement ... thing)

Anyways, your take would be much appreciated! :-)

Hi John!

Just was finishing up doing my research for the election and came upon your site. Sure wish I'd found it earlier, but loved the fact that you came to all the same candidate conclusions I did. We are neighbors as my husband, son and I live near Annandale Rd + Gallows Rd.

Glad you are here and writing--I've become an instant fan!
